Michael Hicks started writing songs when he was six years old. Now, merely [redacted] years later, he is giving the first solo concert of his original material. He sings songs about dish racks, churches and everything in between while accompanying himself on piano and guitar (not simultaneously). Inspired by a wide-range of styles, Coming Out Party fluctuates between gay rockabilly, cocktail jazz, hangman’s folk and Louisiana bordello in an attempt to keep you both entertained and on your toes.

Michael Hicks is a theater professional who lives in New York City. He’s sort of tried it all but has found his great joy in being an audition accompanist for musicals which is what he primarily does for a living. His recent work as a performer includes Ring of Fire at Vienna’s English Theatre and Deutsches Theater in Munich, Our Town at Weston Theater Company and People’s Light, and Camelot at Capital Repertory Theatre. He wrote the score to Plan B which was developed with Michael Barakiva and Emily Mikesell. Michael plays many cabaret shows, most recently for Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, Joe Hartman and Meg MacCary. His parents saw interest and got Michael piano lessons when he was five years old. It is a debt he can never repay. www.MichaelHicks.nyc
