Summer is in the city, temperatures are rising, and chaos is in the overcrowded streets.   Looking for an escape?   Look up because this summer there’s a Diva rising high above it with songs, stories, laughter, and introspect as we all question, “What’s Going On?”  Join the award-winning and crowd-pleasing Diva LaMarr as she takes the mic to reclaim her time and give you a great time: Darnell White as Music Director and special guest, DeWitt Flemming Jr and Dev Woodson and Meghan Dawson on back-up vocals.

 

DIVA LaMARR (they/she)

With an impressive career that has brought her to stages all over the country and even the high seas, Diva has proven herself not just to be a dynamic performer, but also a true star.   Most recently she caused waves and ovations in the ground-breaking re-imagination of Little Shop of Horrors as Audrey II and well as her star turn performance as the Emcee in Cabaret. As a NYC Headliner, Diva has had residencies at The Nines, The Special Club, and has appeared as a guest star in many concerts from Lincoln Center to beloved cabaret venues for The Mabel Mercer Foundation, The American Songbook Association. Credits include- National Tour: Jersey Boys, Regional: Dreamgirls as James “Thunder Bird” Early (LA Ovation Nom), among others.

DARNELL WHITE (he/him) - Music Director / Keys

2 time MAC Award winner and a Lucille Lortel Award winner. Both as a performer and resident artist, Darnell's graced the stages of New York's major venues including 54 Below, The Iridium, Birdland, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Sid Gold's to name a few. Darnell recently served as Musical Director for the off-Broadway show Revelation The Musical as well as the film adaptation of Gospel at Colonus. He is currently the MD for a few churches in the New York area.

DeWITT FLEMING JR (he/him) - Special Guest

Broadway’s DeWitt Fleming Jr (most recently seen in the world premiere of A Wonderful World) is a world renown tap dancer, singer, actor, and drummer. He has toured the world as a featured tap dancer with Riverdance, Cirque Du Soleil, danced with Grammy award wining artist Alicia Keys, Wynton Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin, and was featured on the HBO Emmy Award winning show Boardwalk Empire and NBC's America’s Got Talent. DeWitt is from Washington DC, where he first began to develop his talents at Duke Ellington School of the arts. After graduating Ellington, DeWitt attended Marymount Manhattan College, New York City, and graduated with a BA in Acting. He has been performing professionally ever since!

MEGHAN DAWSON (she/her) - BGV

Born and raised in Louisiana. Recently seen as Tina Turner in TINA: The Tina Turner musical. Catherine Parr in Six! The Musical and Host 2 in R.E.S.P.E.C.T. On Tour. Regional credits include Janelle Woods in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, as well as Rachel u/s in TheBodyguard at TBTS. Louisiana native and proud bayou girl. I am nothing without my community. Dev (they/them) BGV

Dev holds a Masters of Music (Voice) degree with a concentration in Musical Theatre from NYU Steinhardt where they studied under Dr. Scott Murphree and Alexander Gemingani. They also hold a BA in Commercial Music Performance (Voice) from the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) studying voice under Kisma Jordan-Hunter and DeAnna Johnson. Dev has shared the stage with artists such as Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Audra McDonald, and so on. They have also toured with companies like Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company. Dev wouldlike to thank God, and the shoulders of the brillant, beautiful, Black and Queer folks who have come before them doing the important work. IAN JESSE (he/him) - BASS

Tony award winner and Grammy nominee, Ian Jesse grew up in Dayton, OH listening to everything from Bach to Bjork. After a long love with viola, he began playing the bass which led to a full scholarship at Miami University. Ian also studied in South Africa with local and international acts including Abdullah Ibrahim, The South African Jazz Orchestra, and the KZN Philharmonic. Since moving to New York City to study with Ron Carter and John Patitucci; he remains active performing on/off Broadway (Strange Loop), in churches, jazz venues and various club dates.

TJ GRIFFIN (he/him) - DRUMS

New York born and raised! Everything for TJ began in church and music is a big part of his family. “From church I then started to perform throughout the city to other places in and outside the country never taking the gift God has given me for granted. I’ve worked with amazing people so far in my career and thankful to work with more.

We will be collecting donations for Transformative Schools. a progressive education community centering trans joy and social justice. Their mission is to support trans futures by uplifting the lives of trans children, trans educators, and families touched by transness.
