Shanelle D. Jenkins is an accomplished musician from Brooklyn, New York. Performing since the tender age of 4, Shanelle has made quite a name for herself as a powerful, dynamic and versatile trumpet player and occasional vocalist, and has been a member of the Recording Academy. She credits her musical development to the Lord, David Brandon, Marc Golden, Bishop Mario Ford, John E. Johnson and Genghis Nor, a skilled jazz trumpeter, composer and former soloist for Frank Foster, Bill Barron and Charli Persip’s Supersound band. Since her return to New York City from Oberlin College, she has performed at many popular venues and special events like Symphony Space, the Blue Note, Bam Café, The Apollo Theater, Harlem Summerstage and Levitt Pavilion. She has also enjoyed television exposure on Fox 5’s “Good Day, New York”, Channel 7's Eyewitness News, New York One, Channel 2 (CBS Evening) News and most recently "The View" as a guest audience member with Amanda Humes and several notable NYC musicians for International Jazz Day (4/30/23, 4/30/24 and 4/30/25)! Shanelle is also co-founder/bandleader of the Youngbloods' Jazz Quartet, a performance collective that was started in 2004 in an effort to bring a greater acceptance and understanding of jazz music and its historical figures to a younger audience in Harlem. The group has a performance style of framing traditional jazz standards with contemporary music and still performs regularly around New York City. Through the Youngbloods, she has been a subject in a documentary by NewSandhouse Productions "The Youngbloods Jam in Harlem" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yDgk6mZyoY) that was featured at City College and supported by the NYWIFT.  As a founding member of eclectic hip-hop ensemble BR and Timebomb (www.brandtimebomb.com), Shanelle traveled around much of the country, having performed at the Lincoln Memorial, the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, and being selected as one of five opening acts for legendary songstress Patti LaBelle. She has done quite a bit of freelance work with bands around NYC as well; she is a former member of the Afro-Beat ensemble Femm Nameless and a current member of the Haveners (Funk/R&B) and Sweet Little Bloodhound, a country/soulful rock ensemble that toured the Eastern Seaboard. Shanelle has also humbly shared the stage with many notable musicians, including Wycliffe Gordon, Steve Turre, Donald Smith, Simone, Bobbi Humphrey and most recently, Kim Clarke, Bertha Hope and Mala Waldron. Shanelle is diligently shaping what promises to be a long and illustrious career, and is honored to be a member of this year's Sounds of the City roster with Youngbloods' Jazz!
